Choosing an air conditioning system
With Summer on the way its time to think about what type of air-conditioner to choose for your home. Choosing the type of system to suit your property, lifestyle and budget can seem complex and rushing into the wrong system can be costly. Let us help you out.
The first choice is choosing between a ducted air-conditioning or a split system.
A split system air-conditioning unit involves the placement of part of the unit on the outside of your house on an outside wall or the ground with the head unit inside your house delivering cool, refreshing air to a room in your house. Installing a split system is generally cheaper to install and cheaper to run then a ducted system and you can install multiple systems throughout the house and control each system separately. They are generally controlled by remote control allowing you to be totally in control of the temperature in the room where the unit is installed. However the downside is that a single system will only cool one room and the units inside and outside the house can be unsightly. Split system have come a long way in their design and we can assist you in choosing a stylish unit as well as choosing an inconspicuous place to hide your outside unit and advice on where to place the unit inside to maintain decorative appeal. This will be your second biggest decision when choosing and installing air-conditioning.
Overall split systems are a great choice for apartment living and small houses where only a single room needs cooling.
Now onto ducted systems. With a ducted system the whole unit is hidden with only vents in each room visible. The system is usually installed in the roof or hidden outside your property somewhere. The unit pumps the cool air into all rooms of the house and is delivered through the vents. They are a cooling solution that will cool your property through a central thermostat maintaining the same temperature throughout your home. Some ducted systems can also allow you to separately control different rooms which is a great advantage if you only use parts of your home at different times. These zoned systems are generally a little more pricey then the standard ducted system.
However to properly compare the two systems we need to make you aware of the limitations. Most ducted systems involve the control being wall mounted, unlike the convenience of the remote control with split systems. There is also the argument on the cost-effectiveness of using a ducted system if you only need to cool certain areas and have not opted for the zoned system. Overall a ducted system with be more costly to install and run, however adds substantially to the overall value of your property.
So how do you choose with all these pros and cons? It’s a big decision and a tough one to make on your own as an air-conditioning system is an investment in your home and your comfort in summer. Give us a call, we are more then happy to help with this decision and answer all your questions.
